Breeding conditions:
|
About 300 pairs of Arctic Skuas are breeding in the area (but little predation on Dunlin). Red Foxes are usually present including 1 active den with pups in 2003, but Arctic Foxes were not recorded. No obvious fluctuations of small mammals in the area, and almost no lemmings were recorded during the study period. Reindeers have fluctuating numbers and can cause nest trampling in some years. Dunlins started nesting slightly earlier than average with apparent nesting success average for the area (86%) and fledging success slightly lower than average. Dunlin hatching success was high in all years in the area, with the range 78-97%.

Summary
of fauna studies: |
Dunlin was the main study species from 1991-present (2003). Study period each year lasted ca. 3 weeks from ca. 16 June to ca. 7 July. Total study area is ca. 14 km2. Dunlin habitat is discontinuous: uninhabited hills are interspersed with swamps.
